Partnerships are a theme and a proud tradition that has run through Housing Solutions’ history. Our most important accomplishments — developing 400 affordable apartments, housing 1000 homeless families per year through the HomeBASE program, helping homeowners avert foreclosure, and helping the families we house get out of poverty — have been done with others. It’s why we say that if you want something done right, don’t do it yourself. Find partners who can help make it happen.
Most of the programs we operate and the projects we have developed have been through contracts with or support from the State’s Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). Our Rental Assistance, HomeBASE, RAFT and HCEC programs are all operated through contracts with DHCD, and nearly all of our housing developments are DHCD-funded.
We work closely with other state agencies including Department of Children and Families, Department of Mental Health and Department of Developmental Services on our programs that assist people with special service needs.
Our regional partners on the HomeBASE program are Justice Resource Institute (JRI), Catholic Social Services, Fr. Bill’s & MainSpring and Quincy Community Action Council. In addition we are active participants in the Plymouth County and South Coast Regional Networks to End Homelessness, which are convened by the United Way of Greater Plymouth County and the Greater Taunton-Attleboro United Way, respectively.
We have worked closely in recent years with NeighborWorks Southern Mass. to make both of our services more accessible to Bristol County residents from a shared office in New Bedford.
We are active members of the Regional Housing Network, which is the association of the nine regional housing agencies in Massachusetts. We are also members of the Housing Partnership Network, a national network of 100 of the nation’s leading housing and community development nonprofits that work locally, regionally and nationally to ensure that people have the opportunity to live in decent homes in vibrant communities.
Our increased focus on economic independence for the people we serve has been advanced in recent years through our partnerships with SER Jobs in Fall River and Fr. Bill’s & MainSpring in Plymouth County. With seed funding from Housing Solutions, these agencies launched successful Secure Jobs initiatives that have helped place hundreds of formerly homeless heads of households into jobs. We also have worked closely with the community colleges in our area, most notably Massasoit Community College and Bristol Community College, to assist our clients to get the education and training they need to move out of poverty.
Our housing development properties are professionally managed by HallKeen Management, which has a long and successful track record managing both affordable and market-rate housing.
