Housing Solutions administers the state’s Residential Assistance to Families in Transition (RAFT) financial assistance program in Southeastern Mass. We implement it through our Housing Consumer Education (HCEC) team.
RAFT provides short-term, limited financial assistance to help eligible families (with a least one child under the age of 21) avoid homelessness by retaining current housing or securing new housing.
If you are facing one of the following crises, you may be eligible for RAFT and should contact our HCEC Team at 781-422-4200 to see how they can help:
- Doubled up in a must-leave situation
- Housing that has been condemned and is no longer habitable
- Foreclosure that will result in loss of housing
- Severe overcrowding
- Fire, flood or other natural disaster
- Domestic violence
- Other crises that will result in loss of housing within 30 days.
Eligible use of RAFT funds include payment of rent, utility or mortgage arrearage; rental assistance in the form of a monthly stipend; security deposits; first/last month rent; furniture; and employment-related transportation costs to secure or maintain employment.
Families cannot simply apply for RAFT. Instead families will complete an HCEC intake form to document their housing situation. RAFT is one of many tools and resources that may help us address your particular situation. Call 781-422-4200.
